RE: Configuring X Finally!

OK, I got the RH 7.3 config back to the original load after screwing it up
by trying to manually install XFree86 manually.

The RH utility Xconfigurator has a switch in it that allows you to configure
either with 3.3.6 (--preferxf3) or with 4.2 (--preferxf4).

By specifying these switches, it alters the symbolic link for /etc/X11/X to
the proper file (/usr/bin/X11R6/XFree86 (for 4.2) or
/usr/bin/X11R6/XF86_SVGA (for 3.3.6).

Using either switch resets the symbolic link. The Xconfigurator uses a
default driver of null for the Cirrus 5424 card in both configs.

There was also a symbolic link in /usr/bin/X11R6/X that was pointing to
XFree86. As soon as I altered both to point to the corresponding XF86_SVGA
file, startx came right up.
