Okay, fresh installs of all RedHat systems between 7.1 and 7.3 automatically include a default 'classic' XF86Config file, i.e. one that would work for 3.3.6, and also create a XF86Config-4 as long as you selected for a custom install and checked off both 'Classic X-Windows' and 'X-Windows' during package selection. Usually, most users just backup the XF86Config file and then copy the XF86Config-4 to XF86Config to overwrite the one in /etc/X11/. One last note about the compatibility is I should have said GNU C++, version 2.96, not ANSI C++. I had my wires crossed on that one. "Stride the storm or it will dance you." - Michael D.
