I have installed X from debs on Debian Woody machine (upgraded from last version of Debian, Hamm?). I'm starting it with startx. I am getting complaints after that which takes me into gnome and sawfish. It's quite hard to get them regularly but one set are like: Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library. (C is the only locale I have loaded in Debian) I was also getting complaints about not recognising GSX extension but can't repeat those now. Problem is that these seem erratic and I can mostly only get them if I launch programs to background from a terminal within X which presumably leaves an error output usable by X/gnome/sawfish/application, and visible to me. Some other things suggest that X isn't actually installed quite right, which may be something to do with the old installation under Hamm lurking around in some way? I also don't get any X log in /var/log as of three days ago. Anyone any ideas? Anyone tell me how to get Xfree86 logging back?
