rpm -ivh XFree86-S3V* Then issue this command to reconfigure the settings: Xconfigurator --expert --preferxf3 --server XF86_S3V The rpm command requires that you have the right CD in the drive. The one containing (assuming that it 7.3 contains version 3.6 as well as 4.x) the XFree86-S3V* files. the Xconfigurator command puts with the preferxf3 option puts you in the mode of setting up version 3. Its worth doing just to see if you can do it. Then again, the annoying post xwindows garbling of text windows probably makes it worth while to get a new card. Of course, you have to find a card that works! This is a fairly well-known problem, so I wonder if version 4.x will ever get fixed. _______________________________________________ Newbie@XFree86.Org *** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie
