Probably, look into man startx it should tell you in which order it search for a config file. If my memory does not play me tricks it should be 1. whatever is specified in the command line (in case anything is) 2. XF86Config-4 in your home directory (if there is one) 3. XF86Config in your home directory (if there is one) 4. XF86Config-4 in /etc/X11 (if there is one) 5. XF86Config in /etc/X11 (if there is one) 6. etc... (/usr/X11/...)
