[Newbie]I can't get XFree86 to work wiith my new GeForce4

Hi,

I recently upgraded my computer (MSI KT3 Ultra VIA KT333 motherboard, Athlon
2100+, and GeForce4 Ti 4600) and have not been able to get XFree86 to recognize
my video card.
I had a vanilla Red Hat 7.1 installation working untill the upgrade. I
upgraded to XFree86 4.2.0. Then I went to nVidia's webside and got and installed
their newest driver (tarball format). That apparently installed successfully
(it said "install successfully completed"). I've tried to reconfigure XFree86
multiple times including for generic VGA and VESA. Despite it all I continue
to get the following error message:

Fatal server error:

XFree86 has found a valid card configuration.
Unfortunately the appropriate data has not been added to xf86PciInfo.h.
Please forward 'scanpci -v' output to XFree86 support team.

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send
the full server output, not just the last messages.
This can be found in the log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log".
Please report problems to xfree86@xfree86.org.

This looks disturbingly like it will require me edit source files and recompile
things, thoughts that inspire fear and trepidation in me. In the process of
trying to get things working I Googled your mailing list archives several times
and found multiple references to having Geforce4 cards working with XFree86,
so I'm pretty sure it's possible, but probably painful. I have the scanpci
output and log file if anyone wants them. I didn't attach them with this because
they are fairly large and I didn't want to clog the newbie list.
Also, does anybody have a good guess when XFree86 will be getting formal
support for the GeForce4?

Thanks,
G Robert
