I run freeBSD 4.3 and installed Xfree86 4.2 from source. I run GNOME 1.4 on this box. My X server works fine with a startx. GNOME starts up fine from this way. I turned on xdm in the etc/ttys file by changing ttyv8 "/usr/X11R6/bin/xdm -nodaemon" xterm off secure to ttyv8 "/usr/X11R6/bin/xdm -nodaemon" xterm on secure as is recomended in the freeBSD documentation. When I restarted my box and ran XDM and tried to login I got this error message in the xdm-errors log file in my home directory. xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server xlib: No protocol specified. Error: cannot open display: :0. I am running XFree86 4.2. I have GNOME installed from the freeBSD ports collection. I have the .xinitrc and .xsession file set up in my home directory as specified. Do I need to include and .Xauthority file in the directory as well? Any ideas??? _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com
