I figure it out. If anyone else is trying to load up TF2 and is getting absolutely nothing, beyond the "Preparing to launch" screen, then check and see if your email has been verified with Steam. I didn't think that was important, but apparently the game will not start without a verified email. ...Go figure. Hope someone else finds this useful.
