hello tparker, thank you for your info. indeed this solved the problem. i have had to - install the proprietary adm driver - rebuild the fglrx module (for whatever reasons there was a reported incompatibility message seen in xorg.log) after this wow is running fine. i am not able to mark my thread as solved. if someone can do this maybe it is a help to other people. regards --tecuma
