People run 32 bit Wine in 64 bit systems all the time, and unless you built Wine yourself, that's what you are doing.  Ubuntu only provides 32 bit packages. You may be missing a 32 bit library, though. Post terminal output.

You didn't say what Wine version. If it's not the latest development release, upgrade.
