To solve the problem, I went to System Setting>Users and Groups. Then I clicked on "Advanced Settings" and enabled "Use audio devices" and "Use virtualbox Virtualization solution". Then I made sure I was part of the audio group, logged out and back in again. Then I tried wine, and it loaded. So I was pleased with the results. And I did download winetricks from the alternate source, and it comes up the same.
