I got a similar error: Unable to create D3D device: 1272x883 So, I opened Users/[my name]/AppData/Roaming/Need For speed World/ and then there is a config file. I found out that 1272x883 is the resolution it wants to create the game on. When I changed that to 1280x1024, it started up perfectly. So I suppose something is going wrong in the saving of screen resolution, on which the game fails to start.
