I noticed that the versions I have are development ones so I tried building wine 1.2.3 (shared 64 bit). The behaviour is different again. Using Audacity as my guide as to what wine/"Windows" is seeing, using alsa from winecfg shows no input or devices. This version allows me to try Jack (no devices) and OS (devices display correctly but recording then playing back gives a sort of buzzing sound over my voice).
