Distro and video card stuff should be irrelevant - I have tested this across multiple computers (albeit all running different versions of or based on either Ubuntu 10.10 or 11.04) with different video cards with different drivers - results were the same.
WINE versions tested were 1.3.24 and 1.2.3, both leading to identical results.

Here's the output from a laptop running LinuxMint 10 with Nvidia propietary driver 270.41.06 on a GeForce 320GT...

Code:
bluuuh@bluhbluh /media/R4ND0NK3Y/Blip and Blop $ wine blipblop.exe
wine: cannot find L"C:\\windows\\system32\\plugplay.exe"

According to the AppDB, that last line should make the game run in black and white, but still run. It's not black and white.
