Upgraded driver to 270.41.06 via package manager and that fixed it, thank you.
Also, if anyone reads this later and needs the info: the above 270 driver does not appear to have the crashing issue that the 260*.* drivers did for Suse 11.4/KDE/Nvidia so it should be safe to move to it from 256.53.
