s3a, the proprietary drivers from ATi support your video card. If you intend to play games/run 3D applications properly, then you might have to use them. The proprietary drivers will, most likely, always be better than the open source ones. I understand the sentiment about sticking open source, but i'd suggest compromising with the display drivers at least...... r2rX :)
