Thank you guys for your replies.
I visited the link and added the following lines to the bottom of my xorg.conf file:

Section "DRI"
Group "video"
Mode 0660
EndSection
I have also added my user account to the video group.
However, glxinfo | grep direct does still say:

direct rendering: No (LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT set)
And I have restarted the computer since I did these changes.
