Of course. All *nix family OSen (which includes Linux, FreeBSD and hence
OS X) mount filing systems. 

Devices (disks, CDs, DVDs or flash media) can be referred to by system
programs such as partition creaters, formatters and block-level copy
programs but they can't be mounted.
