That is exactly what I ended up doing... Still got the "Bad EXE Format for<file>.exe" which I still have to get sorted out, though I have been unable to find any references of that error either here in WineHQ or google. Maybe I'm just search impaired.
How about some information on your system:
CPU Type and 'bitness'
Linux distribution and version
Wine version (wine --version in terminal.)
