Probably because Wine is a complicated program that actually converts all DirectX calls into OpenGL ones, and uses many complex functions from the video drivers that most other Linux native software wouldn't use. Thanks to the Wine project, many Linux graphics driver bugs have actually been detected (and worked around that way). This may be such a driver bug, but it is also possible that Wine simply doesn't implement one or more DirectX functions quite like real DirectX would.

Anyway, are you seeing pink stripes when hardware acceleration is off, too? In that case, it's probably Wine messing up, since it doesn't use Direct3D if you turn that option off in the game.
