Do you have IPX support installed in Ubuntu? It might also be necessary to mess around with capabilities to use the IPX / to run the app as root... (Which is dangerous...) Check if any patches are available that might allow it to work over IP... (New Windows versions dropped IPX support as well) (A generic, standard, Wine and Windows compatible patch/IPX-over-IP emulation layer would make life a lot easier for trying to LAN old games...)
