I'm trying to install Starcraft II. When I start the installer, I get graphics but no text. [Image: http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/2851/sc2d.gif ]
Console output is

My system:

Ubuntu 10.10, kernel 2.6.35-24 x86_64
ATI Radeon HD 3870, 512 Mb RAM
fglrx 8.80.5
X.Org X Server 1.9.0
wine-1.3.10

Things I've done already:

Added "nopat" to the boot options, and confirmed in dmesg that "Kernel supports PAT but it has been disabled."
winetricks droid fontfix fontsmooth-rgb gdiplus gecko
winetricks vcrun2008 vcrun2005 allfonts d3dx9 win7
Disabled mmdevapi
Tried running in a virtual desktop

Set registry entries as follows:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D]
    "DirectDrawRenderer"="opengl"
    "Multisampling"="disabled"
    "OffScreenRenderingMode"="backbuffer"
    "PixelShaderMode"="disabled"
    "UseGLSL"="disabled"
    "VertexShaderMode"="none"
    "VideoMemorySize"="512"
Also tried setting ORM to pbuffer with the same results.
Also tried setting VertexShaderMode to "hardware" with the same results.

I tried PlayOnLinux, but it seems to have simply done all of the above and gotten the same result.

I understand one of the standard answers is, "the ATI drivers suck, buy an nVidia card." Operating on pure denial here, I'm hoping there is some other answer. Is there something left to try?
