Xcode and Xquartz really have nothing to do with each other. You need Xcode if your going to be building anything from source code (Wine, stuff with Macports... etc..)... Xquartz is a xorg X11 version for Mac. Wine uses X11, because thats what Linux and most every other *nix OS uses... just not Macs.... so Macs need to run an extra windowing server for Wine to use. And for anyone else reading this thread... you can get the latest Xquartz beta builds along with preliminary RandR support by using Macports and installing xorg-server-devel... on 10.5 or 10.6... and sometimes on 10.4, but occasionally updates from that doesn't work on 10.4 and usually wont be fixed, but sometimes it does.
