The virtual desktop works. Windowed mode works too, but the game has to be set smaller than the disktop. Thanks very much for the sympathetic ears. On my old box, the VDT was not necessary, but with this chip set, there needs to be some insulation, I guess. As more updates come in from the distribution, I'll keep testing, but I am now sure this is an UBUNTU problem with this very new chip set.
