I had the same error with FNV box version. In a clean prefix, I did : 1- WINEPREFIX=~/Wine/Game/FalloutNV winetricks directx9 vcrun2008 2- WINEPREFIX=~/Wine/Game/FalloutNV wine /media/cdrom/Setup.exe I applied a no-cd and after to launch the launcher, i can to play correctly. I have a Debian Sid
