It asked for the install disc, which i put in, then it asked me to insert the play disc, which i did. Then I got this error:

I'm a bit confused by this. Are you mounting an iso, or are you physically ejecting and inserting a disk?

I'm not quite certain why you're getting a terminal message that's stopping you when, under normal circumstances (I've never installed Diablo 2, but I have installed similar games from the same time period, such as Icewind Dale 1 and 2, that also have such multi-disk installs), you get a graphical popup in the installer saying "Insert <whatever> disk", you eject or force eject via the terminal, put in the new disk, close the tray, then click OK in the popup to inform the installer that the new disk is there (whatever the terminal thinks), at which point the installer continues.

I grant that all of those Win95/98-era installers tend to vary from each other, but in general that's how it ought to go-- which element is not happening for you? Is the installer not popping up the insert next disk window (check behind any other windows; it could be hidden)? Is the popup window not accepting the OK when you have changed disks? Or are you just stalled by the terminal's confusion at the whole process (which can happen; the Win95-98 era was very confusing to OS's that expect logic and consistency-- there was not a lot of that going on in those days under Windows)?

If you are changing isos rather than physical disks, it should work fine if you sudo umount in the terminal, then sudo mount the new iso to the same mount point (then click OK in the installer popup to continue). You'll probably have to repeat the process when the install completes (many of the installers from that era demand the first disk be re-inserted for the installer to complete).

A little more detail would help.
