I also tried to run multiplayer. but even with the fllistserver.com-fix (http://fllistserver.com/news/index.php/2009/12/22/how-to-use-the-new-freelancer-listserver/) didn't help me, I wasn't able to see a single server. Note: The official masterserver got shut down some years ago, so I have to try the community's ones which normally work. I also tried with direct ip connect; I entered "wine Freelancer.exe -s193.192.58.150:2302", no luck.... I am using wine 1.3 now.
