It's common knowledge that disabling desktop effects (or disabling compiz) helps game performance in wine. Somebody mentioned that the Unredirect Fullscreen Windows compiz option (see http://wiki.compiz.org/GeneralOptions ), settable via ccsm aka compizconfig-settings-manager fixes performance problems just as well as disabling compiz does. I hadn't heard of that before. I never run compiz, but for those who do, does this work?
