Indic language display problem (character order)

I am having trouble inputing and displaying Bengali script in software running under wine. Like other Indic languages, Bengali has vowels and other diacritics that fall on either side of the previous consonant (i.e. does not follow 'normal' latin script sequential character order). These vowels are not being displayed correctly -- they follow the typed character order, not the correct display order.

This problem is consistent across several Wine programs (The Word, LingoPad, eSword), and also does not depend on the input method -- the Ubuntu keyboard, and a separate keyboard utility both produce the same results (they both work fine in native linux software). Also, text copied from the wine programs shows up fine when pasted into native linux text editors.

Any way I can get this working?

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and wine 1.2 RC5.[/img]
