Thanks for the replies. I forgot about not running wine as root. I'm just used to thinking that to install something you need to be root, but that's not true of wine. I think I managed to clear up the mess and it appears now that steam is installed and will work. I couldn't install it using the command eps gave me, but the ususal "wine start SteamInstall.msi" worked. I think this is what appeared in the terminal with the command eps gave me: err:msi:copy_package_to_temp failed to copy package L"SteamInstall.exe" fixme:msi:MSI_OpenDatabaseW open failed r = 80030002 for L"SteamInstall.exe" I also had to install a wine repositorie in YaST to get a recent version. I couldn't get it to work with the version I had access to before. Thanks again. Subsidiarity
