Of course.

It's in /etc/bash.bashrc , and when opening a terminal (under the same user the GNOME desktop is in), the environment variables are there.

Is there anywhere else these variables should be declared for them to be considered by the GNOME Desktop? (specifically under Debian Lenny in my case)
