Many cases have other openings through which the ribbon cables can exit; if all else fails you may be able to squeeze them between one of the plates and the case, or remove some card's plate entirely -- they are often bolted rather than riveted to the card. Yes, this results in having those ports' DB9's hanging loose instead of bolted into place.
