Is it on Steam? Steam does consume lots of resources if it's open. Always use 'wine steam -applaunch <game_id>' command to start games when steam isn't running. Of course Wine's d3d speed is at best 2/3 of native. In most cases much less, especially when it comes to newish stuff (SM3.0+, FP data formats, etc).
