I don't want to be the one to jump in and say you guys must be doing something wrong. But your experiences seem atypical. My experience: I've installed maybe 30 different apps on a half dozen systems running various Linux distros (mostly Kubuntu), and only run into 5 or so that absolutely would not work. Maybe another 5 or more of them _did_ require reading the AppDB and doing minor-to-serious tweaking, but that's not a bad experience, IMO. The original poster said that he could not get any apps to work... even the AppDB claims to work perfectly on a variety of distros and hardware. That in itself says that there's at least something odd about the installation/system. People don't put entries in the AppDB claiming something works just for fun. Rather than blast Wine in general, please post as much specific info as possible (as much as you would want someone to provide to you if they wanted your help) for the system and app that you're trying to get working. Someone here might be able to help, maybe not. It's no reason to go off on a free product of the developers. And if you guys really need a more professional level of support, look at a for-pay option like the CodeWeaver products or put a bounty up for the app that's giving you issues.
