1. Wine has its own implementation of DirectX. The games you want to play might install DirectX by default. If it turns out that the DirectX implementation of Wine is not enough, you can install the DirectX binary with Winetricks : http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks 2. The open source "nv" driver has no 3D support at this point, therefore I recommend that you use the proprietary driver. Can you tell us which Linux distribution and which version of the proprietary Nvidia driver do you use?
