Hello, Thanks for the help. The Dawn of War games work now. I'm not sure why though. I did a number of things. I got this advice from someone on openSuse's game support forum: > Two thing's to check on though are in Steam itself (if it runs) check that under the settings for Steam on the "In-Game" Tab that the ingame access to the social network is UNCHECKED. Also check that in the "General" tab it is not being set to "Start with Windows" those two cause a lot of games to crash on start without any error's at all. But perhaps more significantly I ran winecfg and set up the sound. I didn't have to do this last time I successfully ran the games so I was unfamiliar with it. I also installed Dark Crusade. I hadn't done that yet. I don't think that had anything to do with the games subsequently working though. They didn't work right away. The first time I ran it tried to run the the graphics setup program. That locked up my computer. I skipped that the next time. I got the game to run but when I changed the resolution from 1024 x 768 to 1680 x 1050 I lost my sound. Restarting the game (and perhaps also the computer) fixed that problem. It now runs with the right resolution and with sound. I still have issues with garbled messages on the save game windows. And I have a small box around my cursor in-game. But neither of these are a big deal for me now. Half life still crashes out but much later than it use to. It leaves my desktop in low res which is annoying. It spits out a message about Microsoft Visual C++ runtime error, "abnormal program termination" I haven't run it in a terminal yet, and when I do I will start a new thread since it's a new problem. I've also installed and (and failed to get to run) Fallout3. That's another thread also if I can't fix it on my own.
