The most simple way to get a working version of wine in Fedora 11 is to use the package manager.

(no offense meant, giving complete instructions in case a newbie looks for this later:)

From the main menu (clicking on the white F in the blue circle at the bar on the top of your screen) select system --> administration --> add/remove software.

When the add/remove software window opens up type "wine" (without the quotes) in the search box and hit enter.

Check the boxes for the version i586 or i386, whichever is offered, or "noarch" (do not check boxes for x86_64 even if your Linux is the 64 bit version - 64 bit wine is not stable yet) of:

wine (at the time of this post the version will be 1.1.32-1.fc11 (i586)
wine-alsa

recheck to be sure neither of your choices are 64 bit versions, then hit the "apply" button at the bottom right of the window. A box may come up saying that more files need to be installed for the ones you chose to work correctly, let it install those as well. When it is done downloading and installing you will have wine on the system ready to install whatever windows programs you want to try using through it.
