The designation "stable" refers to the branch as a whole, in the sense of "it doesn't change often." It does not refer to performance. Unless there's a regression, most apps will perform better in the latest development release than in the "stable" version. 

As for your situation, it depends on what apps you're running. Check the AppDB for information on how your particular apps performed under 1.0.1, and check bugzilla for known regressions.  Ultimately, though, the only way to know if your apps will work better in the older version is to try it.
