Inserting objects in any version of Word in general doesn't work. There are already a couple of bugs filed related to this (14966 & 15211), though there doesn't seem to be one specifically about inserting Excel objects in Word. You could file one, but it might be closed as a duplicate. As a workaround, just copy/paste.
