Patching Wine involves compiling from source. The patches in that bug report are pretty old; they might not work with current Wine. But if you're feeling adventurous, some basic instructions are here: http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-7ed3c3163e2b932ee2030a48f9c5e553dc41817b There is a comment in that bug report noting that when the Windows version is set to Vista in winecfg, Securom will skip some checks. You might want to try that first. As for finding out what copy protection a game uses, I usually just google it.
