Recent ATI drivers work quite well but at the beginning of this year ATI dropped support for older cards including the X1300, so you are a bit out of luck. The latest drivers for your card still are quite buggy and don't work on the latest linux distributions. Your best option are the open source ati drivers bundled with recent Xorg versions but they might not offer all 3d features yet but they are relatively stable.
