Can't start Steam in 1.1.30?

Hello,

I had Steam/TF2 working with 1.1.27 on a Linux Mint 7 64-bit machine, ASUS GTX 260, WinXP mode. Using OSS and running wine with padsp to get sound. Frame rates weren't great, but everything was working: DX9, team chat, etc. It continued to work after the system updated itself to 1.1.28.

At some point the system update installed 1.1.29, but I never ran under that version. Now the system is updated to 1.1.30, and Steam won't start.

Well, technically it does start, but can't get to the login screen. The terminal output is:

fixme:process:SetProcessShutdownParameters (00000100, 00000000): partial stub.
CellID: Fetching server list from CSDS. . .
fixme:urlmon:CoInternetSetFeatureEnabled 5, 0x00000002, 1, stub
fixme:urlmon:CoInternetSetFeatureEnabled 10, 0x00000002, 1, stub
CellID: CSDS returned 172 servers.
CellID: Connecting to 119.167.242.111:27031. . .
CellID: Connect to 119.167.242.111:27031 took 280 MS
CellID: Nothing beat our old best time of 23 MS

Then it sits there for a couple minutes, before erroring out:

Deleting active MRSW lock (0x114e1c), expect failure

Steam/Wine is generating some binary data dumps:

steam_977_assert_2009_10_4T18_56_46C0.mdmp
steam_977_crash_2009_10_4T19_25_8C0.mdmp
Steam_crash_20091004150605_1.mdmp
Steamexe__674932__2009_10_4T19_6_7C0.mdmp

If I delete ClientRegistry.blob and run Steam, it looks like it is able to update/regenerate that file correctly: the update screen comes up, it gets to 27%, screen goes away, comes back at 0%, updates to 99%, then goes away again. Then the terminal displays the same "CellID: Fetching sever list from CSDS. . ." messages then freezes.

I tried downgrading to 1.1.27, tried switching Windows modes, and tried creating a new WINEPREFIX and reinstalled Steam. Nothing changed the problem.

Is anyone else seeing this issue? Was there a Steam update that's breaking things?

Thanks,

Niarmo
