There are some uses for wine that are critical for the disabled, and one is Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition, which requires near-zero-latency and crystal-clear incoming sound. People with limited mobility are usually glad to swap any combination of features to get this. 
On this basis I have objected to Pulse as a mandatory feature in both Ubuntu and wine. DNS reacts to even the small added latency produced by pulse in very bad ways.
