As for muyself, I never had any problems at all with Ubuntu/Pulseaudio and Wine, EXCEPT for short version rangess where the sound got crackly (because of changes in Wine). That was fixed, first in regular sound (API) and then in DSOUND (WineDX). All I usually do (and these are experiences with Ubuntus 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04) is setup pulseaudio according to a guide: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=789578 And that's usually all I need to do :) This is why I don't like Pulseaudio/Ubuntu hatred...and then again, I understand who does it... Oh, I also always take a look at the Pulseaudio Perfect Setup guide.
