mpg123 1.9.x works fine if you set your CC/CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS correctly.
I use:
gcc -arch i386 -m32 -read_only_relocs suppress

actually i just got libmpg123 to work in a Wine build on Leopard
finally... had to use 1.7.3 and build it myself, not using Fink or
Macports... version 1.9 doesn't work... had to go back to 1.7.3 to
get Wine to see and use it.
