Wine itself can be downloaded and recompiled for a PS3's cell processor, but that's not going to magically transform the x86 machine code in the game.exe to PPC machine code. Wine doesn't read each opcode of the Windows programs and perform an equivalent function, it simply provides Windows compatible libraries and management processes. When you run a program with Wine, you're still directly executing the underlying .exe unchanged on your CPU. You can't execute Intel x86 code on a processor that doesn't support the Intel x86 instruction set. So, the guild is correct in that you can download Wine on a PS3. But they're incorrect if they insinuated that you could run anything with it. The only way to run Windows programs on a non-x86 processor is via an emulator. The PS3 doesn't have the power necessary to do this at a reasonable speed for anything of any significance (though it does run fast enough to run SDLMAME and emulate 20 year old arcade games).
