Instant complete crash on laptop

I've been using Wine to run an old game (Stronghold Crusader) with no major trouble, however twice now if I run it for a goodly time (about an hour) my laptop suddenly switches off and will not power back on (with the power button) until I've disconnected then re-connected the power cord. The crash is as though the battery has run out and the laptop is doing an emergency shutdown, but when I do re-boot both times the battery was at 100%. Having to remove the power and plug back in again before the laptop will power back on is just weird, I can't fathom why that would be the case, but that's what happened both times.

I've never had this problem before with any other application, and it has now happened twice with the same app under Wine. It must be something to do with this. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite and I'm running Ubuntu 8.10.

I'm mystified as to what could possibly be causing this. There are no error messages to report because the crash is instant and completely fatal, and I can't find any log files in the Stronghold .exe directory or .wine folder.

Anyone know what could be going on and how to fix it?
