In case of Direct3D a new version number means new functionality but OpenGL can be extended with new functionality without a new version number. OpenGL 3.2 has promoted a number of extensions of which some have been around for a while to core. A number of these extensions are already used in Wine. About a dozen of extension have been introduced the last couple of months and while they might be useful we aren't using them yet. Big code changes are needed in some cases to use extensions.
