I also had a problem with sims 3 working, after hearing of others having it working. I tried to install with the latest 1.1.23 WINE and the install bar got stuck 90% of the way, so it could not be installed. I re-installed WINE 1.1.22, and the install worked, although I did have an error message at the end of installation, and it not only installed but is perfectly playable !!. Although I did have some crashes mid game.
