Hey.

First things first, so let's start kicking. What wine version do you have? I recommend 1.1.22 (not 23, since that has a nasty d3d bug) 

Open up a terminal (applications->acessories->terminal)

type in winecfg and click the sounds tab. 

If it complains that there is no driver, select ALSA. If ALSA isn't selected at all, deselect anything else and select it.

Now close winecfg and open it again.

Click Test Sound and see if you hear a short test sound. If it works, good.

Now open up your favourite media player and put some music on. Once again, press the test sound button to see if both sounds can be heard simultaneously.

could you post the Sims 3 output? Check for error messages (starting with err).

That should help us get started. I think your problem is probably related to not having choosen a driver.

I have a friend which doesn't get zit of computers and has the same system as you do --- and wine works just fine there.
